BRANCEILLES, an art of living.
Branceilles is located at the South of Corrèze, in Meyssac Canton,
between Quercy and South Limousin. The Celtic and Gallo-Roman village was in
the locality
of Saint Martin. But the choir of the church, in the village center, dates
from the medieval period.
Colette Laussac has written a book about the history of this village, called
L’Histoire de mon Pays dans la Vicomté, Branceilles, Ver Luisant
edition.
But Branceilles is mostly well-known for its vineyards, vintage in 1990. Indeed,
in the XIXth century, the vineyard covered 500 ha. among the 1000 ha. of the
whole village ! But unfortunately, Branceilles was ruined by the phylloxera
crisis that wiped out the vineyards.
About the same time, people were leaving the poverty-stricken county to go
and work in towns.
Branceilles was also well-known for its black truffles. But after the Second
World War, it disappeared completely.

Since ten years, some farmers have planted truffle oaks. Walnuts are also part of the Branceilles gastronomy. Most of the houses have three floors ! You will admire them and you will like going for walks in the countryside.
You will also be able to discover bread ovens. The Crauffon one is very well restored.
Here are some interesting sights not to be missed : the “castle” of Perrier and the washing-place.
You must have a break at the cooperative cellar to taste the “Mille
et Une Pierres”.
Lots of feasts are organized in Branceilles. During all the year, activities are proposed.
A very famous band gives a pleasant atmosphere at the village.
